“Art washes from the soul the dust of everyday life.”

Pablo Picasso

There are many reasons to surround yourself with art. Whether you enjoy hanging art in your home, or simply find pleasure strolling through a gallery or museum, experts confirm the benefits to your health and well-being.

The World Health Organization (WHO) says, “In recent decades, we have come to understand the intrinsic health benefits to artistic activities…The creation and enjoyment of the arts helps promote holistic wellness….” According to a New York University researcher, viewing art can “reduce anxiety and stress, and increase our overall sense of wellness and contentment,” adding, “the importance of art cannot be overstated.”

“A good painting to me has always been like a friend. It keeps me company, comforts and inspires.”

Hedy Lamarr

If you make art, you too are refilling your health “reservoir.” Researchers exploring art’s “healing power” found that “through creativity…we find our reservoir of healing.” Whether drawing, painting, or coloring in a coloring book, you might lower your stress level, improve your mood, and raise your self-esteem.

So listen to Picasso and Hedy: find comfort in art and clear “the dust of everyday life.” Visit a local gallery or museum, sit down and make some art, or simply go online and enjoy art from artists all over the world. We artists are happier when you do!
