meet mary brooks

I’m so happy to introduce myself to you.

A full-time professional artist, I work from my studio in lovely Lawrence, Kansas, a university town just west of Kansas City. I wake up each day with creative juices flowing and an endless desire to put paint to canvas. My art generally lives under the umbrella of acrylic abstract. In addition to the many and varied acrylic paints available, I appreciate the rich, flowing properties of acrylic inks, the lustrous effects of acrylic glazes, and the wild results possible with texturizing mediums and mark-making tools. This non-representational art often leans into representational with a twist, which is my effort to challenge a viewer’s framework of sight and memory. “I love your colors!” is one of my most-received—and most-welcomed—compliments.

Though a proud Midwesterner, I’ve lived many places, including Dallas, Austin, and most recently, Santa Fe, New Mexico. My personalized license plate reads TMBLWD, a reflection of my interest in gathering, like a tumbleweed rolling down the road, colorful memories and experiences, all of which inform my art.

My paintings can be found in personal collections from coast to coast in the US. I hope you’ll welcome a piece of my art into your own collection.

Welcome to Mary Brooks Art!
